Hoffenheim 0-1 Dortmund: Erling Braut Haaland and Marco Reus combine ten minutes after coming off the bench to fire Lucien Favre’s side into second place in the Bundesliga

  • Borussia Dortmund made it three wins from four with a 1-0 win at Hoffenheim
  • Marco Reus tapped in on 76 minutes just ten minutes from coming on as a sub
  • The Dortmund captain and Erling Braut Haaland started the game on the bench
  • Lucien Favre celebrated his 300th Bundesliga match as a manager on Saturday

Marco Reus played the role of super-sub as he came off the bench to fire Borussia Dortmund to a 1-0 win away at Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The Dortmund captain started on the substitutes’ bench alongside Erling Braut Haaland but both were brought on in the second-half to change the course of the game.

And Haaland picked up on Gio Reyna’s flick-on to square for Reus as the Ruhr-land club sealed all three points for Lucien Favre’s side.

Dortmund were nowhere near their best at the Rhein-Nacker Arena and had to wait until late in the first half for their first opportunities of the match.

Their play was disrupted by an injury to defender Lukasz Piczczek who was brought off in the first-half and replaced with midfielder Thomas Delaney.

Reyna’s effort was saved on the line while Thomas Meunier’s header bounced off the crossbar.

Favre, who was taking charge of his 300th game as a Bundesliga manager on Saturday afternoon, then brought on Reus and Haaland in search of the all-important winner.

That goal came ten minutes after the pair were brought on as Reus’ tap-in settled the match to stun high-flying Hoffenheim, who had won two out of their first three games before the clash on Saturday.

Dortmund have moved into second-place following the win with nine points, one behind leaders RB Leipzig who continued their unbeaten run with a 2-0 win over Augsburg.

Former Manchester City defender Angelino headed Leipzig in front in the opening period, while Yussuf Poulsen volleyed in a second after the break.

Bayern Munich can move ahead of Dortmund if they beat Arminia Bielefeld later on Saturday evening.
